Venture Concept No. 1

The driving force for creating the opportunity to bring a new, innovative way for people to express themselves was my several observations.  I was the change in the environment, a kid from New York that looked around and saw everyone dressing basically the same. Everyone basically had the same style and it was highly surprising to my eyes.  The college campus location as well as the student demographic defines the market.  My idea revolves on the energy that comes with being at UF.  Honestly, the idea wouldn’t be able to succeed if it wasn’t for a college campus.  It revolves around the concept of young, innovative minds that would love to step out of the box and start a new trend on campus.  Right now, my customers are satisfying their need by wearing name brands such as Polo, Vineyard Vines, Patagonia, and Nike.  It’s funny because everyone seems to put these items of clothing together in the same arrangement that makes everyone look like they have the same sense of style.  Unfortunately, I must say that my customers are pretty loyal to the major brands that I have just listed.  The window of opportunity is enormous I believe.  I am still a freshman here at UF and I have three years to turn this idea into reality.  I can use my time at UF to continue to innovate and turn people onto my product.  Time is the key to success. With time comes the opportunity to mold my brand so that it can carry legitimacy and credibility.

My product is an entirely new brand of clothing called Ewear Clothing.  Ewear clothing provides apparel such as t-shirts, shorts, tank tops, sweaters, and hats.  These products will allow for innovate minds across the University of Florida campus to be able to express themselves and stand out from the crowd.  I would ideally like to create a Clothing truck experience as well so that I can have a space to sell and promote my clothes.  I would park it right by the Plaza of the Americas.  This would allow for me to be seen throughout the day.  The “experience” would consist of music playing, my clothing being promoted inside as well as outside the truck.  As of now I plan on selling each of my articles of clothing at different prices.  These prices would range from $15-$45.  This price range is just based on how much it would cost to make each item.

I believe customers would make the right decision to switch to my product because the University of Florida is filled with young people who want to be creative and show their true colors.  I think there are people out there like me who want to be seen as different and separate themselves from the norm.  My new product will most definitely attract these people and with these people, hopefully new people will be attracted to my product.  Yes it will absolutely be a challenge to persuade people to come and at least give my product a chance.  But that is a risk I am willing to take.  My competitors are the major brands and the stores that sell these major brands.  Stores such as Forever 21, H&M, and Urban Outfitters all provide a healthy does of competition for what I want to get done.  I feel like I can beat them by having a more personable experience with my customers.  If they actually see me out there selling my product, it’ll show them that I am just like them and I’m doing this for them.  These people have never come in contact with the major CEO’s of these companies so they can’t relate to them and vice versa.  The business location and customer experience play the largest role in my business.  That is why I created the idea of the Clothing truck.  The Clothing truck takes care of these points very well.  I would have to create a network of people that I trust and can work with to build up my business.  I can only go but so far by myself, I am going to need the help of my peers to help me grow my idea into greatness.

My biggest resource has to be the fact that I am an up and coming entrepreneur.  I am a student among other students and I truly believe that I can relate to these students on a level that major corporations can’t.  I would like to expand my brand by creating a sneaker line.  The sneaker line will go hand in hand with my clothing line and I will rely on this sneaker line to skyrocket my sales.  I want to be as innovative as Kanye West.  He is a role model to me and I believe that he is the most innovative person of our generation.  I see myself in major cities such as New York and Los Angeles in ten years.  The sky is the limit for me and there is no way I let anyone push me down.

Amazon Whisperer

Revenue Drivers
Activities of competitors
Loss of interest from customers
Legislation

Increase in production.

Each and every one of these four drivers can either help make make more money or cause me to lose money.  The activities of my competitors can allow for customers to move away from my product for a better product.  On the other hand, this could allow for customers to truly see how much better my product is.  An increase in my production will definitely allow me to increase my revenue.   These revenue drivers are very crucial in the further development of my company.

I believe that the next thing that my customers would like to see produced by company would be a sneaker line.  They have already gotten on board with my idea for clothes.  With my apparel line, I can usher in my new full line of sneakers.

My new sneaker line would most definitely foster customer loyalty.  I think sneakers go hand in hand apparel.  They are complimentary goods.  My sneaker line can only enhance my company, not break it down.  The sneakers would be sold right beside my clothing.  I would even bring in models to wear my entire line of clothes and sneakers to really advertise how well these two products go well together.

I would like to model my sneaker line after these sneakers.  These are the Yeezy 350 Boosts designed by Kanye West.  I look up to Kanye West as an artist and as a fashion designer.  The customer reviews go either two ways.  People either love the sneaker because it is an innovative, new wave of sneakers, or they hate it.  Why do they hate it? Because of the fact that only a limited amount are sold throughout the year, and they become too expensive once they hit the black market.

The only changes I would make to this product is to eliminate the exclusiveness of the sneaker.  I believe everyone should be able to buy these sneakers at retail price.  These sneakers are too beautiful to not be given to anyone that wants them.

This product, if designed correctly, would increase the popularity of my company as a whole.

Week 11 Reading Reflection

What i found to be the most interesting aspect of Chapter 10 of the textbook was the subject of  "Sales Forecasting" . Sales forecasting is the process of projecting future sales through historical sales figures and the application of statistical techniques.

One concept that I was very confused about was the subject of "Consumer Behavior".  This section of the chapter had too many components for me to completely understand.

Question 1: How important is Sales Forecasting in the Entrepreneurship Market?
Question 2:  Which Entrepreneurial tactic works the best?

I would ask these questions because as you can probably determine from my past posts, I am heavily interested in the ideals of the future.  I am always looking forward to what the future holds for various companies and markets in the business world.

Once again I do not disagree with anything that the author has said in this chapter.  I am beginning to see many similarities between his mindset and mine.

My Unfair Advantage

1) Economic experience.

I have been apart of the workforce from the very young age of 14.  I have worked with people, connected with people, and known the true thoughts of people.  I have been a new employee of a brand new business and have witnessed firsthand how much time and effort goes into building a successful business.

2) Strong Support System

There’s no stronger critic and fan of the work I do than that of my mother. My mother has always told me truthfully whether the ideas I have need improvement and when I am on the right track.  I believe that my mother would highly approve of my idea and would be willing to do whatever she can to help me succeed.

3) Goal driven

I have always been driven to succeed in every single thing that I do.  There is nothing anyone can tell me about the work that I do.  If I put my mind to it, I will succeed in it.

4) Working with others

Due to my jobs all throughout my career in the workforce, I have established great socializing abilities. This reflects the advantage I have at working with others to achieve an ultimate goal.

5) Nice smile

This may be superficial, but I believe that the smile that I have and the energy that exude when talking about my ideas and expressing my enthusiasm plays an important role in what I want to accomplish.

6) Years of leadership experience

I have held numerous leadership positions of clubs dating all the way back to Student Council in middle school.

7) Advertising skills

I was part of the school newspaper in high school as well advertising for several organizations.  I have the ability to promote my product to the fullest using various social media sites.

8) Ability to allocate money

I have the ability to use my family to donate to my product.  I have sources of large sums of money from Uncles, cousins, and grandparents.

9) Meticulous
I am a perfectionist.  I always have to make sure that anything I've done is done well. Every detail has to be exact and that will absolutely show in my business venture.

10) Charming

I am most definitely charming and able to attract people to my product.  I have that winning attitude and will to bring people on board with my idea.

I believe that the resource that is most important to me is my support system.  Without a strong support system there is no possible way that I can succeed.  Success is only attained through your family.  Your family members, especially your parents are the only ones that will be there for you no matter what.  I would not be where I am without my mother and I definitely will not improve in the future without her.

Week 10 Reading Reflection

What i found to be the most interesting aspect of Chapter 9 of the textbook was the subject of "Securing a Patent:Basic Rules".  I was very surprised at all of the rules and guidelines one must follow in order to get something patented. A patent is an intellectual property right.  It is the result of a unique discovery.

One concept that I was very confused about was the chart about "How to obtain a patent."  The chart had too many components that it was very hard to follow.

Question 1: How easy do you think it will be to obtain a patent in the future?
Question 2:  If so, how can that impact the market as a whole?

I would ask these questions because as you can probably determine from my past posts, I am heavily interested in the ideals of the future.  I am always looking forward to what the future holds for various companies and markets in the business world.

Once again I do not disagree with anything that the author has said in this chapter.  I am beginning to see many similarities between his mindset and mine.

Elevator Pitch No. 3

Well the comments I received on my second elevator pitch were significantly more positive than the comments on the first.  I appreciated all of the feedback that I received.  I want to apologize for the quality of this video because I recently got into an accident and am not able to do much.  I believe that what stood out to me was the fact that everyone seemed to believe I was very confident.  My confidence is what drives me to succeed.

I just tried to continue to talk more confidently to show that I truly believe in my idea. The more confidence I exude the better I can sell may product.

Idea Napkin No. 2

1. Who am I?

My name is Brandon Ewing, and I am a freshman here at the University of Florida.  I believe that my talents reside in the areas of leadership, speech, creativity, and writing.  My aspirations for this business is to set up my clothing trucks on major college campuses across the country.   I would also love to see my clothes in major stores in every mall and outlet nationwide.  Stores such as H&M and Forever 21 would benefit from having my clothes in their stores. Based on the feedback I received, I would just like to elaborate on my scheme of putting my idea into fruitition.  The clothing truck would allow for the absolute "experience" of Ewear clothing. It would just be the center in which I could promote my line of shirts, sweaters, and shorts.   My business would be my number one priority.  It would be my only source of income and I would be fully devote my time to the business.

2.  What are you offering to customers?

Ewear Clothing would provide high quality, low priced apparel for college students across the country.  These people would stand out from the everyday basic people on campus.  My clothing line as well as the clothing truck will provide a great experience for students to come to during the course of their day.  Based on feedback I realized that if I want to see my product in stores such as H&M I have to come to terms with the fact that my product will have to be made with low quality material.

3.  Who are you offering it to?

My product is for the students who are aspiring to stand out from the rest of the crowd.  My customers will be the innovative, future leaders of the world.  I am providing this product for people who are like me.  I always have goals and strive to be different from the normal people of the world.

4.  Why do they care?

Customers will pay me for my product because it will be something that they've never seen before.  It will be entirely affordable as well.  Nowadays clothing is so expensive and definitely not affordable.  Students are on ver low budgets when they're away at school, I am trying to provide them with affordable clothing that they can feel comfortable wearing.

5. What are your core competencies?

I honestly feel as if I have the gift of success.  Throughout my life I have always worked hard to achieve my goals and I have fortunately been successful.  No one can bring me down once I set my mind to my goal.  I will instill this into the creation of my company and use my talents to create the best product that I can.

Feedback memo
Basically the people that commented on my post wanted to know more about my "clothing truck" idea.  I tried to elaborate on this concept in my Idea Napkin above.  Others wanted to know how I would transfer my product from college campuses to major clothing outlets.  I must say that those were the only two points of feedback that I received on my post.  A lot of the comments were repetitive and I firmly believe that I addressed the questions asked.

I do believe that all of these components of the Idea Napkin go together well.  It allowed me to enhance the idea that I wanted to display to my customers.  It was a great template for me and I utilized it to the best of my ability.  I have no complaints with the 5 components or "questions" that we had to answer.
